Junction 33 Dance Band

Junction 33 Dance Band

About

Junction 33 Dance Band was originally formed by peripatetic instrumental music teachers from the Sheffield Music Service who wanted to play together in a professional ensemble, not just for their enjoyment after long teaching weeks, but also to share their passion for music with the community. Many of these talented musicians also worked as freelance players in various orchestras and ensembles, both across the UK and internationally, bringing a diverse range of experience and expertise to the band.

Supported by many local ballroom dancers and individuals who cherish the distinct sound and style of the 1930s, the band created wonderful evenings at the Bannerdale Centre in Sheffield. This venue was particularly well-regarded for its spacious hall and superb dance-floor surface, which made it an ideal setting for dancing and social gatherings. The band quickly became a beloved staple in the local entertainment scene, known for their lively performances that brought people together for a night of joy and celebration.

Throughout the years, Junction 33 Dance Band has participated in numerous charity evenings, tribute nights, birthdays, weddings, and countless other special events. Their performances have not only provided entertainment but have also played a significant role in engaging and touching the hearts of the local Sheffield community and the wider South Yorkshire region. The music they created together fostered a sense of connection among attendees, often leading to lasting memories and friendships.

However, as the Sheffield Music Service evolved and eventually left the Bannerdale Centre, the bittersweet reality set in: the band had to disperse. This marked the end of an era, leaving behind a rich history of musical collaboration and community involvement. For a period of over ten years, they were unable to play together, reflecting on their past in a world where their joyful performances once filled the hall with life and energy. Despite these challenges, the legacy of Junction 33 Dance Band still resonates, reminding everyone of the power of music to unite and inspire.

In 2026, we are delighted to be re-uniting as a band and once more, slowly building up our following and our dance supporters as we plan the next and vital stage of the band’s life. This exciting journey not only aims to enhance our musical repertoire but also to enrich our connection with the audience. We are committed to bringing high-quality music to local people in our unique 1930’s style – this includes the timeless classics of Glenn Miller as well as many modern pop songs performed and arranged in that warm golden sound that resonates with nostalgia that only a twelve-piece band can bring. Our goal is to craft unforgettable experiences that mirror the vibrancy of the era while also embracing contemporary genres. We are great believers in LIVE music and the community which this creates; it’s more than just a performance, it’s an opportunity to gather, share stories, and celebrate together. Each note we play is a testimony to our passion, and we hope to see you at one of our events soon, where you can join us in this next stage of our musical celebration and create memories that will last a lifetime!
